I had the honor of managing production, directing Jean-Michel Jarre’s holographic performance, and assisting him in rehearsing for this innovative format while overseeing the virtual experience for OXYMORE. This groundbreaking project redefined his artistry in an immersive virtual world.
A standout feature of this production was the open-world concept we created within VRChat. By using a highly detailed skydome, we simulated the illusion of a vast, continuous environment. In reality, the audience was transported at key moments, synchronized with each track, to different locations within a beautifully crafted low-poly city. This clever design gave the impression of a seamless world while delivering dynamic shifts in atmosphere and setting. It remains one of the VRChat team’s most celebrated worlds, often highlighted in their public speeches as a technical and creative achievement.
Another highlight was the use of cutting-edge volumetric capture technology developed by French Touch Factory. This allowed Jean-Michel Jarre’s live performance at the Palais Brongniart, attended by 250 people, to be faithfully recreated in VR. The holographic integration, displayed in stunning 180° volumetric detail, brought his presence to life, seamlessly merging the physical and virtual realms.
I also organized the entire virtual infrastructure to ensure a smooth and immersive experience for the audience. This included setting up and managing the dedicated Discord channel, training virtual hosts to oversee the experience across multiple instances, and ensuring that each of the 50 hosts per instance was prepared to guide participants. Curating avatar selections and providing personalized guidance further enhanced the seamlessness of the audience journey.
Collaborating with a brilliant team of creatives and technical experts, I ensured that every aspect of the production captured the essence of Jarre’s music and energy while pushing the boundaries of VR storytelling. OXYMORE stands as a testament to how innovation and meticulous planning can create unparalleled audience engagement, bridging live performance and virtual worlds.
